As a child in first grade, Gina was unfortunate to be in the class of a violent and abusive teacher. She went from loving school to avoiding it at all costs. By the time her parents intervened, the damage was already done. Gina became timid and fearful, suffered anxiety and low self-esteem. It didn’t help that the neighborhood she lived in was all about social class and shunned her because she didn’t belong. Gina grew up into a woman whose afflictions amplified and she sought God for the wrong reasons. She needed healing from everything that plagued her as this threatened her home and life. However, through her long walk with God, she learned to heal, as we will learn in One Trembling Heart, Out of Darkness Into the Light by Gina Lynn Murray.

One Trembling Heart, Out of Darkness Into the Light by Gina Lynn Murray is one of the most insightful memoirs I have read in a while. This book will appeal to Christians experiencing tough times as Gina wrote from a place of knowledge. It broke my heart that teachers who should be symbols of love, patience, strength, and safety were bullies. I also found it hurtful that it was easier to give a child medication than to remove the trigger. I couldn’t fathom the psychological trap of fearing death yet being suicidal. However, by the end of this memoir, my notepad was filled with “Aha!” moments, too much to pen here. I learned to know God for myself, ditch indoctrination/religiousness, and choose spirituality. Spiritual sensitivity channels us into a personal relationship with Him, accessing His grace and taking our places as heirs. Thank you for sharing your story, Gina!
